Here are the hard facts: Amazonian basin loses a football field-size of rain-forest every second. That amounts to over 55.000 square miles of forest loss every year. That's the size of Illinois (or Greece, whatever suits you best) deforested every year. Knowing that the Amazonian rainforest is the lungs of our planet, the deforestation acts as a superbig cuban cigar for our planet. We are slowly suffocating.
Losing the lung capacity spells out disaster for our planet and we must do something about it.
Luckily, people are waking up to the fact that our reckless consumerism needs to stop, so governments and large corporations are taking active measures to minimize this deforestation trend, and even reverse it with large re-forestation campaigns.
But individuals can also take part in this action. Me2Everyone PLC, a UK-based social network company has taken up an initiative where the joy of reforestation is easily available to you and me. This initiative is so cool that you can't but rejoice in the yee-ha! way... therefore, we call it TreeHa!
Basically m2e's TreeHa project has a goal of planting a billion trees throughout the world. This in turn will create employment for over 5 million farming families in developing countries. Think about this: our planet is suffocating and millions of people live below the poverty line.
